Binding position refers to the edge of the document which is bound together (for example, where the spine, wire, comb etc. is placed).
The binding options depend on the orientation of your document.
For a portrait document, the 'left long edge' or 'top short edge' can be bound.
For a landscape document, the 'left short edge' or 'top long edge' can be bound.
These configurations are designed for left to right reading. If your document is for right to left reading, please contact us to request that your binding edge is changed to reflect this.
For wire bound and hardback wire books, the pages need to be set up in tumble-turn (also called flip-up) format if you want the top of each page to sit on the binding edge.
This means each page in your artwork needs to be rotated 180 degrees, so the document reads correctly once it’s bound at the top or side. Without this rotation, some pages may appear upside down after binding.
In simple terms:
If the binding edge is at the top, you’ll need to rotate every page by 180° before uploading your file. This ensures the finished book reads naturally when flipped.
If you need help checking your file, you can use our online previewer to make sure everything is oriented correctly before ordering.
